A parasite overview
Parasites are living organisms that use humans as a source of food! They can live on us or inside of us and many of them can make us very sick. Some parasites are big enough to be seen without a microscope while others are tiny one-cell organisms. Parasites are found in ponds, uncooked food, and wild animals. Some parasites resemble tiny worms that can wiggle their way through normal, healthy skin to cause disease. Others look like tiny little kites that can swim through our stomachs when we drink dirty water. Insects like mosquitos can inject some types of the little trouble-makers directly into our blood!
